When you have been hurt, it can be very difficult to let go of the resentment and forgive someone. It might be even more difficult if they caused you harm, but never apologized for it. Whether they have said they are sorry or not, does not matter, because the truth is that the forgiveness is for you. The longer you hold onto that resentment, the more pain and suffering you will endure. Here are some steps to help you let go and forgive those that have hurt you.

The Steps To Forgiveness

Step 1: Prayer & Meditation

Pray and meditate for the willingness to forgive. After a few days of the willingness prayer, pray for them to have all the blessings the universe has to offer. The great part about this prayer is that you can do it even if you do not want it for them or believe it. You just have to take the action and your Higher Power will take care of the rest. Do this for thirty days straight. If the resentment has not been lifted, continue doing so until it has been. In the meantime, make sure you are talking to your sponsor and sober supports to help give you strength and guidance during this time.

Step 2: Act As If

Act as if you have forgiven all those who have caused you harm or anyone/anything that you still have resentment towards. The act of acting as if is not forgetting or denying what has happened, but it helps bring positivity into your heart, soul, and mind. This positivity feeds your faith while starving your fear and anger. It is important for you to bring as much positivity into your life right now. Make sure you are attending your 12-step fellowship meetings, sharing your feelings with your sponsor and sober supports, and working through this resentment with the power of the steps and prayer.

Step 3: Let Go

Let go of anything that is holding you back from forgiveness. Let go of the control, anger, and resentment you have by applying prayer and positivity into your life. Each morning ask you Higher Power to help relieve you of this bondage and allow yourself to heal. Forgiving and letting go doesn’t mean you forget and allow toxic things into your life, it simply means that you will not allow it to control you.

The Power Of Healing

After applying these three steps for thirty days, or longer depending on your specific situation, you may be surprised out how free you feel. Let go and allow the forgiveness process to begin. This is your time to heal and grow, so don’t let anything or anyone get in your way of true happiness.
